As humans, we are wired to look for and solve problems. When there’s not one in front of us, our minds are brilliant at conjuring them up. For me, this manifested in lots and lots of rumination, anticipation, and the attempt to make plans and “get ahead of” problems before they arose…also known as trying to control things, often before they even became things. In the process, I totally lost touch with what I really wanted and needed and resulted lots of burnout.

It’s not easy to make a shift that allows what I want and need to arise after 36 years (actually probably at least 50 of my 58 years of life) of over-functioning, taking too much responsibility, and tolerating a whole lotta stuff for and from others. I had to be thrown into this or I wouldn’t have done it willingly, which is a shame on so many levels.

I am working now to allow what is to be and free myself from the pointless struggle of trying to control, well everything, most of which was never mine to control to begin with…
